Spiritwalker (Native)
From Wikipedia
Spiritwalkers, usually from indigenous cultures, are people who have the ability to consciously leave their physical body and move around in spirit form. Spiritwalking is an important part of Native cultures and allow interaction between the physical and spiritual world. Such uses include gaining information of various kinds, religious practices, and specific uses such as the Healing Arts. In some native tribes and cultures, members who demonstrate such spiritual abilities are seen as being more important in status, stature, intelligence, or spiritual achievements than those who do not.
Spiritwalkers can leave their bodies in several kinds of ways and can see destinations on the physical world and the spirit realms they walk in. The consciousness of the walker opens spiritual portals or can see through dimensional barriers to other physical people or locations. Sometimes, a spiritwalk is intended with a target destination or objective and sometimes the walker’s consciousness is controlled by the spirit world, such as the case in visions. Spiritwalks can take any amount of time, from a flash of a vision to elongated walks outside the physical body’s consciousness.
It is possible for a walker to get stuck in a limbo position of various kinds; many tribes had practices for such safety precautions. (Some Plains Indians in North America used a “buddy system”, for example, when one spiritwalker would “go out” to locate a buffalo herd for the tribe to hunt.)
Besides giving a spiritwalker spiritual instructions, direction, or other information to be used in life, other benefits can include checking up on loved ones or verifying tribal applicants for membership. Spiritwalkers can be of any age old or young, and special training is not always necessary depending on the walker.
